Pre-post test results showed that students scored significantly higher on two Woodcock Johnson III subtests (Writing Fluency and Writing Samples) though no significant change was noted on the Editing subtest. Qualitative measures included surveys and focus groups. This mixed methods study utilized pre-post tests and curriculum-based measures to examine quantitative changes. Students used the multimodal features of a productivity software (PowerPoint) to organize pictures and headings, take notes on a cognitive map, type in text, and record their voices narrating what they had written. Forty-six students in two classrooms that included general and special education students participated in a 12-week intervention during which they wrote multiple science reports. This developmental study examined the effect of the TAS intervention with two groups of culturally and linguistically diverse middle school students. TeenACE for Science (TAS) is a writing intervention that combines components of Multimedia Technology, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) to help students develop expository writing skills in science. key words : Crossword puzzle, independent learners Another important benefit is that it enables the learners to be more autonomous learners. In addition, the students also take pleasure in learning, and improve their cooperation with their peers. From an application of crossword puzzle in the classroom activities, it is shown that it is proved to help the students for better vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation and structure. However, the game promises fun and it is simple and solitary. Crossword puzzle is the one, though it lacks of pronunciation training, since the game only involves reading and writing. Considering this early finding, I come to think of a game which contains the elements and it can be played individually by the learners. vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation and structure. From a rough interview with the students, it indicates that the main problems they face are the lack of mastery on four aspects, i.e. The suggested approach in implementing the curriculum today is Genre Based approach. To come to that goal, the language elements should be involved in their learning experience, as part of the teaching activities in the classroom. The aim of the current curriculum of English in Indonesian high schools is that the students can master well the four English skills listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They see the street as a public place and their mindset is that they also own the best place. Interestingly, the study concludes that graffiti writing is a show of declaring the graffiti writers’ concept of “we own this place” or a claim of ownership of a public place. The classification of the corpus of the study is data-driven, based on the semantic content of the graffiti. Graffiti is not only the sound of the marginalized or neglected youth who renegotiate existing power relations of life, love, rights, concerns, and duties, but also can be an expression of the challenges, concerns, attitudes and dominant semiotics of today's youth. There were 80 graffiti pictures collected from the streets of Dammam City, mostly suburb areas and 15 graffiti writers were interviewed. The study used qualitative – textual-thematic analysis and descriptive research design. with the results further developing the theory, instrument, etc.The present study approaches the graffiti from a semiotic and sociolinguistic perspective as a voice inscription of the local community of Dammam city youth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (how they picture their voices in their landscape). The quantitative phase is used to test the theory, instrument, etc. The qualitative data is used to explain the quantitative data.Įxploratory Sequential Design - Three phase design where qualitative data is collected and analyzed to inform theory, instrument, etc. Specific mixed methods designs:Ĭonvergent Mixed Methods Design - One phase design where both quantitative and qualitative data collected and analyzed, then compared the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to see if the data confirms or disconfirms each other.Įxplanatory Sequential Design - Two phase design where quantitative data is collected and analyzed first, then qualitative data is collected and analyzed based on the quantitative results. Mixed methods research involves collecting quantitative and qualitative data, and analysis of the data integrates both forms of data. This study design combines quantitative research design and qualitative research design.
